  • The funny thing about your post "Who you know" Is this ........ you deleted the post you initially wrote that I had responded to which stated that you felt like you didn't fit it at this church.....which was the only reason for my response. I myself don't worry about fitting in no matter what church I attend because I am there for no other reason than to worship my father...me and him...no one else. Half the time I come and go without speaking to anyone....my personal time. I am not a leader so, try again...but I know one thing.....I'm glad you aren't either. I pray you find a church that you feel comfortable to suit your needs. God Bless!

What is "nepotism"? "Nepotism is the showing of favoritism toward relatives, based upon that relationship, rather than on an objective evaluation of ability or suitability." It is common practice, especially in the church world for a family to run a "church" and pass it along to their children like any other family business. We observed this many, many times. Family members and favored persons are put in positions, given titles, and treated in a manner suggesting they have special status. It is typical of church members to give special treatment and consideration to the children of church leaders, sometimes in an effort to gain favor from those leaders. Rather than following the scriptural teaching of Jesus concerning true servant hood, a pastors' family becomes "king, queen, prince, and princess" as they serve themselves of the people. Here are a few Nepotistic examples: A pastor's son is appointed as a Youth Pastor, Music Director, or similar. The pastor gives positions and titles to family, financial supporters, or other favored folk. Novices, young converts, and naturally gifted people are put in ministerial offices, which is directly contrary to the teaching of the Bible. When the church finances are closely controlled, guarded, and administrated by the pastor's family. The management of the "church" is kept within a family and their children are groomed to take over their church when they are old enough and trained. (This may or may not include Bible College where numerous classes are offered on church financial and business management). Retirement "benefits" are usually part of the package as they seek the security of temporal provision. A senior pastor appoints a family member, relative, or a handpicked "yes-man" to a church board or other position of church oversight. In the name of Christianity, the churches we were part of were in reality family owned businesses and/or denominational franchises that operated as churches. There was no doubt who benefitted the most from the financial side of church. For those of you who still attend EITHER a "board-run or family-run" church, we urge you to prayerfully examine your reasons and motives for staying in such a place. If you are not sure what kind of "church" it is, then you need to find out if it is 501c3 corporation church, a board-run church, a family run church, or even a denominational church (which is a "sect").If any of these apply, it is doubtful that "Christ is the Head", even if the leadership alleges it so. If you are going along out of human loyalty or a misguided love of people, it is time to step back and re-examine yourself.
